There is one other state park in the area that has a must do hike. I hate leaving things that I really want to do to the last day but the forecast for tomorrow is so much better that today we just did a driving tour of some of the nearby small towns.
Eagles Mere only has about 120 permanent residents but they sure have some nice old houses. We first went to the tiny shopping area.
Not a modern house to be found. The gardens at this one were amazing. It looked big enough to be a B&B but there were no signs.
There is a small lake next to town with a private marina, club and the requisite golf course. LOTS of money around here.
We drove on to the village of Forksville to have lunch.
Big Mike used to live in Philadelphia but moved his family out here. They even buy the buns from a Philadelphia bakery to get the authentic taste. I had a cheesesteak and Jennie had a chicken variation called the Godfather Part II. Both were very good. We were very bad and also order some excellent fries with cheese and bacon. We will work it off tomorrow.
On the looping drive back to the RV, the town of Dushore had a large church perched on a hill overlooking town, naturally on Churchill Street.
The church didn’t look that old but some of the headstones in the adjacent cemetery looked like they had been there a long time.
I guess this place repaired motorcycles.
The forecast had called for an afternoon thunderstorm. We got a lot of rain starting at about 4, that hasn’t really stopped yet, but no thunder.
The forecast for tomorrow is for bright sunny skies. Fingers are crossed.
Beautiful stately old homes!!!
