It was a really hot, humid and windy day. We did another ride along the river in the hopes that it would be cooler. The 31 km return trip to the falls wasn’t too bad. We were never heading directly into the wind but it didn’t help much with the heat.
The first part of the trip was much the same as yesterday. Lots of big houses looking out over the river.
This one looked like a business but it was next to other private homes so…
We probably should have just put the bike on the car and parked closer to the falls to skip this part but it was still good exercise.
Closer to the falls the trail was more interesting.
The massive inlet gates for the generating stations.
This row of gates somehow controlled the flow over the falls.
Looking out over the rapids before the falls.
We passed by one of Sir Henry of Casa Loma’s projects. He and two other investors built the first hydro station at Niagara. It was very ornate for a generating station.
All the hotels looming over the falls.
It was not too crowded today so it was easy to get a spot at the railing.
We had done all the touristy things on other visits with the kids, The Maid Of the Mist.
And the Walk Behind the Falls.
We walked down opposite the American Falls.
One day we are going to have to go to the US side and try these walkways.
This is the tower for the elevator to get to the US Maid of the Mist tour,
We were getting very hot and the bottles on the bike now had hot water. We looked for some ice cream but the place we found was selling scoops by weight. We watched a couple get a quite small scoop and be charge around $5. Pass. We found a shady spot after buying some frozen lemonade.
We headed back.
It was a very hot ride back. Being able to turn on the air conditioning in the RV was wonderful.
That view of The Falls from the edge as it descends is my favourite viewing spot. You can really feel the power of the falls right there!
